- Master’s degree with 55% marks (or equivalent grade) in the concerned subject (French/Russian) from an Indian university or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
- Must have cleared NET/UGC-CSIR/SLET/SET or hold a Ph.D. degree as per UGC regulations (2009/2016).
- Ph.D. candidates registered before July 11, 2009, are exempt from NET/SLET/SET if they meet specific conditions (regular Ph.D. mode, external examiners, open viva, research publications, and conference presentations).
- Ph.D. from a foreign university ranked among the top 500 in QS/THE/ARWU rankings is also eligible.
