- Must be a domicile of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
- Master's Degree with 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/Differently Abled/PhD holders pre-1991) in the relevant subject from an Indian University or equivalent foreign degree.
- Must have cleared NET conducted by UGC/CSIR or equivalent (SLET/SET) OR hold a PhD as per UGC regulations (with specific conditions).
- NET/SLET/SET not required for disciplines where UGC/CSIR does not conduct these exams.
- For Music discipline, alternative qualification includes traditional/professional artist status with 'A' grade Artist status of AIR/Doordarshan.
- Age limit as on 01 January 2026: 40 years for Open Merit and in-service candidates, 43 years for reserved categories, and 42 years for Physically Challenged candidates.
