Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Recruitment 2026 - Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak Posts

- Recruitment for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) including Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak posts in rural areas across India.
- GDS are not regular government employees but hold civil posts governed by GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.
- BPMs must arrange accommodation for Branch Post Offices at their own cost and reside in the post village.
- ABPMs and Dak Sevaks must reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the Post Office they are attached to.
- GDS are required to work 4 to 5 hours daily and cannot be retained beyond 65 years of age.
- Candidates must have a secondary source of income besides government allowances for adequate livelihood.

- Minimum age: 18 years as on the last date of application submission.
- Maximum age: 40 years (relaxations apply for SC/ST: 5 years, OBC: 3 years, PwBD: 10 years, PwBD+OBC: 13 years, PwBD+SC/ST: 15 years).
- Educational qualification: Passed Secondary School Examination (10th standard) with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognized board.
- Must have studied the local language up to 10th standard (specific languages vary by state; see Annexure-III for details).
- Special provisions for local language proficiency in Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Sikkim, and Nagaland (detailed in the notification).
- Knowledge of computers, cycling, and adequate means of livelihood are mandatory.
- Candidates must not have been dismissed/removed from government service or GDS in the past.

- Selection is based on a system-generated merit list prepared from 10th standard marks (converted to percentage with 4 decimal accuracy).
- Merit list preparation: Marks are calculated from 'marks' or 'grades' (using a multiplication factor of 9.5 for grades).
- In case of ties, priority is given to older candidates, followed by gender and category (e.g., ST trans-woman, SC female, etc.).
- Shortlisted candidates must undergo physical verification of documents within 15 days of selection.
- Final selection is subject to successful document verification and completion of pre-engagement formalities (e.g., basic training, accommodation arrangement).
- Candidates must submit an undertaking regarding knowledge of computer, cycling, and adequate means of livelihood.
