- Masterβs degree in Microbiology/Biotechnology/Microbial Biotechnology or allied subject with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) from an Indian University or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
- Relaxation of 5% marks for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Differently-abled/Other Backward Classes (Non-creamy Layer) or Ph.D. degree holders who obtained their Masterβs Degree prior to 19 September, 1991.
- Alternatively, Ph.D. degree from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 in QS, THE, or ARWU rankings.
- Must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by UGC/CSIR or similar UGC-accredited tests like SLET/SET, or hold a Ph.D. degree as per UGC norms.
- Candidates registered for Ph.D. prior to 11 July, 2009 are exempt from NET/SLET/SET if they meet specific conditions (regular Ph.D. mode, external examiner evaluation, open viva, two research papers, and two conference presentations).
